About

Dr. Kassem is a board-certified Family Medicine physician with extensive experience in hospital medicine, quality improvement, and primary care leadership. Born and raised in metro Detroit, he attended Wayne State University for both his Bachelor and Master Degrees. He earned his medical degree from St. George’s University through the prestigious Keith B. Taylor Global Scholars Program and holds a Master of Business Administration with highest honors, specializing in multisector health management.

Dr. Kassem completed his Family Medicine residency at Summa Health – Barberton Campus, where he served as Chief Resident and was recognized as Resident of the Year. His leadership experience includes Medical Director for Hospital Medicine, Quality Director for Hospital Medicine and Pre-Admission testing (PAT) Director at Summa Health with US Acute Care Solutions. While at Summa Health, he led initiatives in quality metrics, care coordination and performance improvement across large multisite hospital teams. He served on the following hospital committees: Peer Review Committee, Primary Care Task Force, Sepsis Hospital Committee and Hospital Throughput Committee.

His clinical interests include chronic disease management, joint injections, obesity management, and evidence-based care integration. In addition to clinical practice, Dr. Kassem is dedicated to education and mentorship, serving as a Clinical Assistant Professor at NEOMED and precepting residents, medical and PA students. He was award Teacher of the Year award at Summa Health in 2024. Member of American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) and Diplomate of the American Board of Family Medicine (DABFM).
Dr. Kassem approaches medicine with a strong commitment to compassionate, patient-centered value based care. He believes in developing long-term relationships with patients, empowering them with the knowledge and tools necessary to maintain wellness across every stage of life.

Dr. Kassem is married with two children. Outside of work, he enjoys traveling, reading and cooking. Dr. Kassem is an avid Detroit Lions fan.
